Four previous editions of this book have informed and encouraged the transatlantic skipper for 22 years. It remains as popular as ever despite all the technical changes that have taken place in the cruising world over this time. Boats have tended to become larger, rigs easier to manage and engine more reliable. Ocean conditions themselves may not have changed but GPS and chart plotters have greatly simplified the navigato's role - helped further by the ability to obtain good weather information through easier communications.
The island groups covered in this book have also change significantly which the provision of ever increasing facilities to meet the demands of the greater number of boats now sailing the Atlantic. Procedures have become simpler ove time while the essential charm of the people and the diverse nature of the islands both remain unspoilt. All the islands groups may be regarded as places to cruise and visit and not used simply as stepping stones in an ocean passage.
